North America spends roughly $855 billion a year on advertising. Of that, industry estimates put the wasted portion at roughly $119 billion, every single year. That is not a typo, and it is not really about fraud or bots, though that is part of any waste conversation. Most of it is quieter than that. It is money spent doing the same thing over and over, hoping for a different answer.

We spent years managing ad budgets for other people’s businesses before we started building AdMagic: $4M+ in ad spend managed, $2.1M+ in client revenue generated. The waste we saw up close rarely looked like a fraud alert. It looked like a perfectly normal Tuesday: another round of creative testing, another few thousand dollars gone, another shrug when the numbers came back inconclusive.

Here is where that $119 billion actually goes.

It goes into testing that never finishes

Blind creative testing is still the default in this industry. Roughly 50 creatives, three to four weeks, $10,000 to $20,000 in spend, and often, at the end of it, still no clear winner. That is not a bad campaign. That is the standard process, repeated every quarter, by nearly everyone. Multiply that by every brand doing it in parallel and you start to see where a chunk of $119 billion goes: into finding out what does not work, slowly, expensively, and mostly by accident.

It goes into chasing a number finance does not care about

The rest of the waste is not really about creative at all. It is about which number a business decides to trust. Marketing teams are built and paid to optimize ROAS. Finance cares about net profit. Those two numbers can move in completely opposite directions, and most businesses have no bridge connecting them. A campaign can show a strong ROAS and still be quietly losing money once you account for real costs, returns, and margin, and nobody notices until the bank balance says so.

This is exactly the gap we built AdMagic to close. The Context Engine ties every dollar of ad spend, and every click, back to true net profit, not just ROAS. TRIBE v2, our neuro-creative scoring system built on fMRI and EEG data from 750 participants, scores creatives before you spend a dollar on them, instead of after you have already burned through the testing budget finding out the hard way. An AI CFO and CMO layer sits on top of both, proposing what to do next with a reason attached, and a human still approves before anything executes.

None of this makes the $119 billion disappear industry-wide overnight. But it is the reason we are building this instead of just writing about it. We are in active MVP development right now, working toward our first design partners around January 2027, and every day between now and then goes toward closing a little more of that gap.

If you are a DTC founder or a marketer who has ever looked at a “good” ROAS number and felt a nagging doubt about whether it actually meant the business made money, you already know where some of that $119 billion is coming from. It is coming from not knowing, quarter after quarter, until it is too late to fix it cheaply.
